• Birds - only two birds per passenger are allowed and they must be accompanied by veterinarian health certificate and an Import Permit obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture of Panama City. Any kind of birds arriving from Mexico is prohibited. The quarantine for birds last for 15 days. For more information contact the nearest Panamanian embassy.Adult birds will be quarantined for 15 days.
• Cats and dogs must be accompanied by veterinarian health certificate and rabies inoculation certificate issued not more than 16 months and not less than 30 days from arrival. On top of that the certificates must be approved by the Panamanian Consulate. The quarantine period for cats and dogs last for 40 days and is passengers’ financial responsibility. A quarantine quarters can be requested at the Ministry of Health where race, colour and origin of the animal and owner's address in Panama must be specified.
• Airport Embarkation Tax is levied on all passengers departing from Panama in the amount of 40 US dollars.

• The care and facilities in private hospitals and clinics are reported to be better than public hospitals but medical facilities outside the capital are limited.

• Street crime is on the rise in the country and travellers are strongly urged to keep their passport and other valuables in a safe location throughout their visit and to avoid obvious public displays of wealth. Journeying around alone after dark is not advised and modern tourist facilities may be lacking in much of the country.

• The quality of the roads in the country are poor and travellers should take care not to drive after dark down poorly lit or unsafe roads which may have cattle and wild animals passing down them. Travellers should also make sure that their cars have sufficient fuel if undertaking a long journey owing to the relative lack of reliable gas stations in the country.
